The Office of the Deputy CIO, Department of Defense in conjunction with the Association for Enterprise Integration (AFEI) instituted an annual awards program to recognize people and programs making significant contributions to the transformation of the defense enterprise. Awardees were recognized for leveraging the power of architecture in enterprise management. The DoD Enterprise Architecture Achievement (DEAA) Awards were presented at the annual DoD Enterprise Architecture conference hosted by AFEI.

Arlington, VA (PRWEB) April 24, 2008 –- The Department of Defense, Office of the Deputy CIO presented the first DoD Enterprise Architecture Achievement (DEAA) Awards at their Annual DoD Enterprise Architecture Conference in Orlando, Florida hosted by the AFEI.

The DEAA awards recognize significant contributions and achievements in advancing enterprise architecture for the Department of Defense. The DEAA awards align with the strategic goals of the Deputy CIO - leading the DoD enterprise to achieve an information advantage for its people and partners.
Awards were presented to the winners in each of four categories.

The Government Individual DEAA Award was presented to Mr. Shawn Spencer, Chief, Future Capabilities Division and Chief Architect, US Strategic Command.

The Government Organization DEAA Award was presented to the Joint Forces Command, J89, for its Joint Command and Control Architecture Capability Assessment Enterprise. Mr. Stuart Whitehead accepted the award for JFCOM.

Industry Individual DEAA Award was presented to Mr. Charles Robinson, Science Applications International for architecture support to the Joint Staff, J6I.

The Industry Organization DEAA Award was presented to Booz Allen Hamilton for their work on the Department of Navy Architecture Federation Pilot project. Mr. Brant Frey accepted the award.

This inaugural awards program received 28 nominations.

"All of the project teams and individual nominees are doing outstanding work and are clearly having an impact," Mr. George Wauer, Director, Architecture and Interoperability, Office of the Deputy CIO said in making the awards.

In reviewing the program, Mr. Brian Wilczynski, Chief of Staff of the Architecture and Interoperability Directorate said, "The quality of work that is exhibited is exceptional. Few outside this community can appreciate the dedication and perseverance required to achieve these results. The ability to overcome resistance to change and achieve objectives is inspiring. I offer my congratulations to all those who have been recognized for their achievements."

"AFEI is pleased and proud to support the DoD Office of the Deputy CIO in making these awards," said Dave Chesebrough, President of AFEI.

Architecture is one of the key elements in making the DoD Global Information Grid a net-centric, interoperable domain. Our members are proud to provide backing for this initiative."
