The Workshop is sponsored by NGA and hosted by NDIA.
About This Conference
The first NGA Geolocation Workshop began in the
summer of 2001 at Purdue University as a small roundtable discussion
to update participants on precision target geolocation technology.
It has since grown to be a popular and well-attended annual event
sponsored by NGA and hosted by the National Defense Industry Association
(NDIA). This year’s NGA “Workshop IV” will be
held at the well-appointed auditorium facilities of Northrop Grumman
(formerly
TRW) just off the Fairfax County Parkway in Northern Virginia, and
will cover four days (December 8-11, 2003) with a bit of
something for everyone.
Tutorials will take place on Day 1 in a half-day Unclassified
format and will give newcomers to the field a grounding with several
college-level
lectures and demonstrations.
This year for Day 2 we are adding a full-day,
Secret
//Rel Australia-UK-Canada
, session called the “Replacement
Sensor Model (RSM) Community Forum” which
highlights the importance that mathematical sensor models play
as we strive for ever-increasing accuracy in targeting from airborne
platforms. As we look to extract the most out of our platforms,
sensors,
and data, we will look to complex techniques such as RSMs to further
reduce target geolocation errors. Through NGA’s workshops,
we hope to help others keep up with these important techniques
as well as to understand the current targeting needs of operational
users. At the end of Day 2, NGA and NDIA will host a social
at the
nearby Hyatt Hotel.
Classified sessions on Days 3 and 4 will offer insights from the
operational and technical professionals who are making precision
target geolocation the dynamic and highly successful field that
it is. In keeping with past Workshops, we will have up-to-date
operational feedback from analysis of airborne targeting in Operations
Enduring
Freedom and Iraqi Freedom (OEF/OIF). We will also invite a panel
of expert, frontline targeteers to share with us their practical
and candid impressions of current targeting tools and what they
would
like to see improved. Finally, we will try a new format by rounding
out the Workshop on Day 4 with a half day of “Technology
Snapshots” where
you will get 30-minute briefs on new precision geolocation technologies
that have emerged since our last Workshop in 2002. We will again be making space available for vendors to show hardware
and software products that relate directly to our theme and give
you a chance to see their capabilities firsthand and dialog with
company representatives.
