Role of innovation and net-centricity in Military Transformation and e-Government

Conference Description:
This conference is about how innovation and net-centricity are changing Government processes and Military operations.

The primary objectives on the first day are to define key roles of technology and innovation; explain network-centric operations/warfare; identify characteristics of network-centric organizations; and identify future situation that businesses dealing with Government must contend with.

The objectives of the second day are to identify specific transformational initiatives, including recently initiated efforts in Homeland Security/Defense, and show how they support principles of net-centricity and achievement of transformational goals; and to examine industry perspective on transformation, net-centricity and their impact on competitive advantage.

President Bush’s initial budget document, Blueprint for New Beginnings, included two very important goals that rely on information technology: 1) Making Government Citizen Centered, and 2) Shaping a 21st Century Force Structure for Defense.

The resulting e-Government initiatives leverage information technology and apply innovative approaches to improve services to citizens, businesses, government agencies and government employees, while also improving efficiency and effectiveness of the Federal Government.

The Quadrennial Defense Review identified transforming America’s Defense to embrace uncertainty, contend with surprise, and develop “capabilities-based” models for military readiness.
Essential to each of these are innovative approaches and applications of technology, and the greater integration of our enterprises with intelligent information infrastructures. Since 9-11 these have taken on an increased sense of urgency as we move resolutely and swiftly to assure security at home.

Lodging

For room reservations at the Hilton McLean, Tysons Corner, please call 1-800-hiltons or 703-847-5000 prior to July 31, 2002 to receive the group rate of $145 single/double. There is a small government block available. Please reference The Association For Enterprise Integration when reserving your room. Rooms are limited!

Tax: All room rates are subject to the 6.05% state and local tax.

*This rate is only available to active duty military and civilian government employees; U.S. government issued active duty ID cards and travel orders are required upon check-in. Failure to present these credentials will result in being charged the AFEI Industry group rate of $145.00

Please make your hotel reservations by: Wednesday, July 31, 2002.

Each registrant is responsible for making his or her own reservations. All reservations for arrival after 6:00 p.m. must be accompanied by a first night room deposit, or guaranteed with a major credit card. The hotel will not hold any reservation after 6:00 p.m. unless it is guaranteed. Check-in is 3:00 pm, and check-out is 12 noon.

All reservations will be held until 6:00 p.m. (local time). In order to guarantee a Reservation for arrival after 6:00 p.m., the Hilton McLean Hotel - requires a Deposit equivalent to one night's room and tax (for the first night for each reservation), to be paid by check or major credit card.

The deposit is refundable if cancellation notice is 24 hours prior to arrival date. If Reservations are not cancelled prior to twenty-four (24 hours) in advance, the guest will Incur a "no-show" charge of the one night's room and tax deposit.

Parking at the Hilton, McLean-Tysons Corner is complementary. Parking is at the rear of the Hotel.

How to Register for this Conference

All participants, including speakers, must register. Payment must be made at the time of registration. AFEI accepts Diner's Club, MasterCard, VISA, American Express, Traveler's Checks, Cash, and Government Purchase Orders - (only DD1556). AFEI does not accept purchase orders from non-government entities.

Foreign Payment

Registration fees may be paid by credit card or by checks drawn on U.S. banks in U.S. ($) dollars. AFEI does not accept purchase orders from foreign governments and will not invoice them for payment.

Cancellations, Substitutions and Requests for Refunds

All cancellations, substitutions, and requests for refunds must be done so in writing. Substitutions are welcome! Registrants who are unable to attend the symposium must fax or email their cancellation or refund request to the attention of: Nicole Peterson at (703) 247-9474 or [email protected]; on or before August 12, 2002. NO refunds will be issued for cancellations received after 5:00 PM EST this date. Refunds will not be issued for no-shows. A $50 administrative fee will be applied to ALL cancellations received before August 12, 2002. If requesting a substitution, please indicate if payment (if already received by AFEI) is to be transferred to the new attendee, or refunded.

Identification Badges

Each attendee will be provided with an identification badge during on-site registration. This badge must be worn while attending all conference functions. ALL ATTENDEES MUST PRESENT A VALID, Government (U.S. or Foreign) PICTURE I.D. (Driver's License, Passport), when picking up their badge, or registering on-site. Conference badges are to be worn at all times during event. No badge = no access to ANY event venues.

Attire (Uniform/Dress code)

The appropriate dress for this conference is business casual.
