Current AFEI Working Groups
1. Data Sharing and Services Strategy (DS3) Sponsor:
DoD Office of the Deputy CIO, Director of Information Management, Mike Krieger
Industry Co-chairs:
Joan Baumstark, EDS
Greg Gardner, Oracle
Focus:
Provide industry input on policy issues relating to implementation of service oriented architectures in the Department of Defense. The group has developed two products relating to commercial best practices.
The Office of the DoD Chief Information Officer (CIO) asked the Association for Enterprise Integration (AFEI) Data Sharing and Services Strategy (DS3) working group to analyze the issues surrounding shared-services, and recommend strategies and policies to incentivize the implementation and adoption of shared-services within DoD. This paper provides the initial response to that tasking as a broad framework for shared-service solutions. The recommendations represent the collective inputs of focused debate around enterprise development in the private sector and how those technologies and practices must be adapted to fit within the DoD (warfighter, business, and intelligence domain users), where the timescale for decisions is more rapid, the security needs more demanding and the users more intertwined.

AFEI Working Group Role
AFEI working groups serve in a conduit for OSD and the Services to industry, and an opportunity for industry to influence policy and implementation decisions.
AFEI provides industry-wide collaboration on net-centric and transformation issues
and serves government by providing a neutral, non-proprietary environment
for collectively addressing mutual concerns in partnership with
industry.
Why these working groups?
- Represents a collective industry position beyond the
membership of AFEI.
- It is a transparent group that engages with government
in partnering and discussions.
- It is NOT a standards group and does
NOT intend to choose standards. The NCOIF intends
to help government develop strategies for dealing with commercial
standards as well as those that may be unique to DoD community of
interest functions.
- The group assesses, coordinates, and gives a consensus
of opinion on issues relating to DOD Enterprise Services.
- Work Group Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
